About us

We started at a customs desk, not a boardroom

NSSC began in 2013 as three people clearing other companies' freight in Oakland. We kept hearing the same complaint: nobody could tell the shipper where their cargo was. So we built the company around fixing it.

Our story

Twelve years of doing the unglamorous parts properly

Freight is not a hard industry to enter and it is a very hard one to do well. Anyone can broker a container. Far fewer can tell you, on a Tuesday afternoon, exactly where that container is and what it will cost to land it.

So that is what we built first. Before we opened a second office we built the scanning discipline and the shipment record that sits behind every booking today: one identifier, every event, no gaps where a subcontractor used to swallow the trail.

The network came after. Fourteen hubs we staff with our own teams, bonded warehousing at nine of them, and a partner network everywhere else that we audit against the same standard we hold ourselves to. We grew into countries when we could cover them properly, which is slower than the alternative and the reason our on-time figure has held above ninety-eight percent while we scaled.

Today NSSC moves a little over four million shipments a year. The thing we are proudest of is still the boring one: when something goes wrong, our customers hear it from us first.

Our mission

Make international freight boring again

Shipping across borders should feel like a solved problem: a date you can plan around, a cost you can forecast, and a straight answer whenever you ask where something is. Every process we run is measured against whether it moves us closer to that.

  • Quote the date we can hit, not the date that wins the booking
  • Surface problems before the customer finds them
  • Own the whole route rather than hand off accountability
  • Report emissions on every lane we price

What we value

Four things we actually hold each other to

Not the poster in the break room. These are the ones that decide arguments.

Tell people the truth

Delays happen in freight. Hiding them is what loses customers, so we surface problems the moment we see them and bring a plan with the bad news.

One team, one shipment

No hand-off between departments where accountability quietly evaporates. Every account has a named coordinator who owns it end to end.

Lighter footprint

We consolidate aggressively, prefer sea and rail wherever the timeline allows, and report the emissions of every lane we quote.

Build the boring things well

Reliable scanning, clean paperwork and accurate data beat any amount of marketing. Most of our engineering goes into the unglamorous parts.

Our team

The people accountable for it

Operations, brokerage and the commercial side, run by people who mostly started on a loading dock or at a customs desk.

It is still the fastest way to learn this business, and it is the reason nobody here has to go and ask someone else where your freight is.
